[....] The tas-de-charges

As a last step, building the vault calls for the carving of its tas-de-charges. Its volume is drawn in section (photo 41), bearing in mind that its height reaches the point of tangency between the oval arch’s two circles.

Once the tas-de-charges’ volume is determined, this is divided in horizontal levels (photo 41) whose projections, when transferred to the horizontal plan, show the profile of each cutting level; these shapes will be transformed into frames, as seen in photo 42. Finally, with the help of the templates is each of the levels carved using the upper and the lower frame, as necessary. Photo 43-46 give a clear picture of the method without requiring more detailed explanations. [....]
